It’s been almost four weeks since my surgery and my eyes are getting better and better. I had an appointment Monday and my vision was 20/15. The doc said that at this rate of healing, I might be seeing 20/10 at the six month visit. Last week I was seeing halos around car lights for one night, but that went away the next day. Weird! Anyway, I’m enjoying my new vision and feel that it was worth the two days of torture.

It’s been 8 days since my eye surgery and everything is going well. Dr. Jeff Whitsett performed the surgery in Houston. I’m healing pretty quickly and my vision is getting better everyday. I ended up getting ASA Surgery instead of the normal LASIK because my corneas were to thin. The biggest difference between the two is PAIN! Not really. With LASIK, you’re in and out and most people see well that afternoon. With ASA, I was blurry and pain free the day of surgery (friday). The next day I had a little discomfort during the day. It just felt like the contact was a little dry. Well, by that night I was dying. It felt like I had specs of sand in my eye that I couldn’t rub out. I had blurred vision, double vision, and a bleak vision of my future. I was going crazy. I mean I was ready to end it all. Just kidding. The doctor had given me some numbing drops called Tetracaine but I was told to use them only for severe discomfort because using to much could be detrimental to my eyes. Well, I tore that sucker open and let it rain. By Sunday morning I was on the phone with the doc asking for more. He said NO! I survived that day by using a lot of the wetting drops. Monday I had a follow up with my doc in town and he removed the protective contacts. YES! The heavens opened up and I felt great after that. Like I said, it’s only been 8 days but now and then I get a glimpse of 20/20 vision and man it’s awesome. They say full healing takes about a month with this type of surgery but it is well worth it.
Would I recommend it to anyone? Yes, with an asterisk. *If your corneas are to thin and you need ASA, be ready for some intense discomfort on the 2nd or 3rd day after surgery. Once you get through that, it’s all good. I’ll be posting updates on my recovery, so we’ll see how well i’m seeing in a month. At this point, I know I can see well enough to lead music tomorrow @ Bay Area Fellowship Padre Island, so consider this your official invitation to come out and worship with us. See you there.
