Building and Maintaining Multi-Site Worship Teams

Update

Update. The existing worship teams (Padre Island, 5 Points, Alice, Kingsville, San Marcos & West Side) are doing well. We are always looking for musicians who want to share their God given talents with us so if you know of anyone in the Coastal Bend area, let us know. I think that this is always an issue, but we’re so thankful for the musicians we have and we know that the harvest will come through dedicated prayer and diligence.

MultiSite Worship Craziness!

So, this weekend was crazy! People were out, equipment was failing but our God still opened people’s hearts to accept salvation. That’s my God! Anyway, we had to do a lot of scrambling and scheduling just to pull off worship this weekend. Here’s how it went……
I sent our audio engineer from our 5 points campus to our Kingsville campus, our guitarist from our broadcast campus to 5 points, our drummer from our broadcast campus to our Padre Island campus, a new vocalist, who will be a floater, to our Alice campus and I spent Sunday at our San Marcos campus with a new worship leader for their grand opening. Like I said, it was crazy. These kinda things don’t always happen, but they do happen. So, the best thing to do is to be prepared by having a system in place that can handle almost any kind of situation. Oh, and PRAYER helps too.

7 New Campuses

Yeah that’s right! Our Pastor, Bil Cornelius has challenged us to open 7 new campuses. Wow! Is that a huge task or what? I’d say that’s a God sized task wouldn’t you? Well, thats who I’m giving it to, God. The same God that breathed life into Adam. The God that delivered the Israelites. The God that healed the lepers. The God who saved the world through His Son, Jesus. If He could do those things, He can surely handle all of this.

I don’t know if you’re aware but new campuses cost a lot of money, a lot of man hours and a ton of investment into volunteers in order to share the vision of your main campus. I’m finding that it’s taking me at least 3 months to set up a brand new worship team that has the same dna and dedication to excellence as the main campus. If you’re about to open multiple campuses, be sure to give yourself enough time to build a team that can function at an acceptable level before you move on to the next one.

It can be done. We are now on our 5th campus and have opened the last 2 almost simultaneously. Has it been a lot of work? Oh yeah. Is it worth it? You better believe it. We have 5 fully functioning worship teams with members who have huge hearts for God. They’re living their lives for Him and it shows in their music. It is so rewarding to know that God allowed me to be a part of that. But, more importantly, it’s rewarding to the hundreds that are led in worship every weekend which I know is pleasing to God.

Bay Area Fellowship Alice Is Ready!

It’s been a lot of hard work, but BAFA is up and running. We had a “practice service” yesterday (Aug. 9) and it was great. The core group of about 50 people showed up and there was an overwhelming sense of great things to come by everyone. It was very cool. The musicians did a great job and the audio/video guys did too. This is of course a temporary location until we run out of room. When we do, we’ll do it all over again on a bigger scale. God is good.

Building a Multi Site Worship Team from Scratch – Update II

Bay Area Fellowship Alice CampusOur next multi-site campus is coming along nicely in Alice, Tx which is approx. 35 miles away from our central campus (Bay Area Fellowship-Corpus Christi). It looks like we should be in there around mid – July. Fortunately, I’ve met some great people out there who have a worship band and are interested in sharing their talents with us @ B.A.F.A. There are also others, who aren’t in that band, who are interested as well so I will begin auditions during the 1st week of services. Man, what a relief! I seriously didn’t know what I was gonna do and was kinda stressed, but God has provided (just like He promises He will). I’ve always said, this is God’s work and He’s gonna get it done with or without us. So, why stress about it.

We are going to have to do some of the build out of the new facility. Sometimes this can be a huge undertaking but thankfully, we’ve got a great core group in Alice that’s willing to help with the rest (floor, temporary walls, etc.). As far as audio/video goes, we will most likely begin the install next week.

The auditorium part of the facility is not very big so the audio/video install will be minimal. We’ll be using a couple of 15″ JBL EON’s that will be flown, a couple of JBL 12″ monitors, Crown Pwr Amp, dbx eq’s, Allen & Heath MixWizard 16 & a dbx driverack. Video is through a Panasonic projector that will be shot on the wall behind the stage. It will be in an area of the wall that will be painted with screen paint. Media will be handled through an iMac via ProPresenter.

Because of the small space and high ceilings, my plan is to do all music unplugged with a couple of acoustics, percussion, bass and 2 or 3 vocalists. This is of course until we move into the bigger facility next door, at which time we will go with a full band and full instrumentation. I’m very excited to see everything come together and I know it’s gonna be awesome.
